The first thing that will pop up when you search the term “biking” online is probably a few dozen texts about “the health benefits of biking” or “a few surprising perks that come from taking up biking”. I should know since I’ve written a few of them myself. Now, don’t get me wrong, this isn’t some sort of confession to lessen a heavy burden on my soul because I can’t stand living without confessing that biking is not, in fact, the cure for all that ails humanity…
Truth be told, the health benefits like burning fat quicker or decreasing blood pressure are well documented to actually work. The point I am instead trying to get to is that while the perks to one’s health are very welcome and in many cases sorely needed, there are some additional things you could gain from taking up this particular activity. For instance, the thrilling feeling that comes with adding a little adventurous spirit to your everyday life.
While it is true that most people take up and stick with biking in order to maybe add a few years on their lives, there is no reason why they shouldn’t try and give those years of life a bit more life. Seeing as how if they are biking they are already out and about, it wouldn’t be too difficult to forego the usual routes and take a detour or two. Maybe take a less travelled route, a more twisty path or just a bigger hill than usual to get the heart racing a little. Basically, anything that will make the experience more fun, and will make it feel like an adventure, rather than a chore done out of necessity.
When deciding to start something like this, people usually go for the same excuses, such as how they wouldn’t know where to start in terms of bikes or that it’s cold outside so they should wait a few months before they start. However, both of these are non existing problems if you live in Australia, since there are places such as Dk bikes where you could potentially find sturdy all-purpose bikes at reasonable prices, and Australia, in general, is not known for its frequent snowstorms.
As stated before, there are many different reasons for picking up this particular activity, and you are free to go to Dk bikes tomorrow and start for whichever reason you like. The only thing that I would like you to keep in mind is that there is a whole different way of experiencing it (as opposed to focusing only on health reasons), if you only change your outlook ever so slightly.
