Self-Watering Planters Can Help You Grow a Thriving Indoor Garden

Unfortunately, living in constantly growing urbanized environments leaves less and less space for us to enjoy natural greenery. And when you nurture a love for plants but life’s circumstances have you stuck living in a city apartment, this can seem heartbreaking. Although you might think that gardening is only possible if you have a yard and the time, today’s revolutionary planters argue otherwise. Modern self-watering planters have really made people think more about indoor gardens.

Yes, gardens can be brought indoors, even if it seems absurd. Vegetables, herbs, and fruit all require the proper conditions to grow. For one, they need plenty of sunlight and a constant presence of moisture in the soil in order to successfully thrive. If you have a balcony, you won’t have problem getting enough sunlight. But even if your don’t, with the help of some LED grow lights  you can achieve sufficient light and warmth to stimulate plant growth without significantly increasing your electricity bill. And then, there are the self-watering planters that can help ensure a nutrient and moisture rich soil and proper root development.

A self-watering planter has a special storage tank at the bottom of the container which you fill with water. The soil then soaks up from the tank exactly how much water it needs, keeping a consistent moisture level and feeding the water directly to the roots. The reservoir system also includes an overflow hole, so excess water can easily drain out and not flood the plant. Because the water is at the bottom, it evaporates slowly which allows the plants to go for long periods without being watered.

As you can see, this makes these revolutionary planters an excellent choice for people who have a busy lifestyle or travel frequently for long periods of time. With self-watering planters forgetting to water your vegetation will present no big problem. They also come with a sleek, modern design as well featuring plenty of colour choices. However, my personal favourite has been the white planter box. There simply is something special about white that makes plants pop out and seem even more luscious. Plus, white blends in with any decorating scheme – from traditional to contemporary. If you’re looking for something simplistic yet modern, a white planter box is perfect for you.

Most vegetables growing on stalks thrive beautifully in self-watering containers. However, there are some plants that don’t survive in such a constantly moist environment, like for instance, succulents, cacti and any other plants that need to be thoroughly dry between watering. In any case, make sure to research a plant’s requirements before you plant it in soil.
