The Hottest Interior Design Trends to Follow in 2018

Creative wall treatments, comfy and fashionable furniture, bright colours, and the ever-present family is what makes a house a home. A lively affair such as this one definitely calls for some inspiration to be drawn from the ever-changing trends which I absolutely adore this year. And since the living room is the heart of the home and the spot to gather and unwind, you want to create a space that feels relaxed, but at the same time shows off your awesome style credentials. Now let’s take a look at some of the hottest interior design trends for 2018 that you can easily incorporate in your comfort zone.

The Come Back of Entertainment Units

The horrifying trend of a giant plasma TV being mounted to the wall is going out of style at last, and thank goodness for that! I’m so happy to wave goodbye the days of seeing people ruin their beautifully decorated walls with giant black, unsightly screens. Talking from a space-saving point of view, wall-mounted TVs are great, but not so much when considering practicality and aesthetics. Think about it – you cannot really re-arrange your furniture layout if your TV is secured in one place. Luckily, entertainment units have made a glorious comeback, leaving all the artistic souls out there with plain walls again to decorate them with beautiful pieces of art and bold colours.

Modular Furniture

With the rise of relaxed style and open-plan living spaces, modular furniture arrangements are currently at the throne when it comes to the furniture design trends for 2018. Both colour and fabric choices are becoming bolder, giving you a chance to add to your living room a touch of luxury and warmth. There are many styles that offer storage solutions, which is a great feature for people who are short of space. And since many don’t have another option but to rent, the need to create homes that can constantly evolve and change according to their needs is more obvious than ever.

Bold Colours

There’s this misconception that I absolutely hate about dark tones making a place look that much smaller. I say yes – BUT that will only be the case if they are not used correctly. Creating a feature wall will always be a cool and effective way to add a splash of colour to a small living room without overwhelming the space. Sinking into the depths of the fabulous 2018 interior design trends, I’ve come to the realisation that neutrals have taken a back seat to the blocks of colour. Now more than ever, it is incredibly mainstream to use multiple shades at a time – and to be honest, out of all these trends cleverly clashing shades on the walls has to be my absolute favourite sight in a room.
