Growing up to be nature lovers and happy campers, it’s needless to say for most of our nation, camping is the ideal holiday. We get to stay in nature and save on money we would otherwise spend on hotels, so what’s not to love, right? Of course this doesn’t mean we all camp the same way; there are as many camping styles as there are personalities.
Personally, I like adventures but I can’t imagine going about without the essential bit of comfort: the chillaxing camping chair, hammock, dry clothing, especially dry feet, comfy bed and pillow combination, bathrooms consisting of more than a toilet for utmost luxury, and of course most importantly cooked meals.
When I say cooked I don’t mean the improvised, aluminium foil cooking, but having the proper camp kitchen with all the needed supplies: the different pots, pans, eating set, compact cutlery like the spoon fork combination, and cups ideal for various drinks both hot and cold.
While a cosy kitchen makes for an unforgettable camping experience, I don’t choose supplies that are disposable, only reusable and nothing that would be a harmful waste for the environment. Camping is also about learning the lesson of green living!
Cooking over an open fire, the camp kitchen supplies also have to be durable, so I choose quality over quantity, but further care doesn’t hurt either, so I put a bit of liquid soap over the pots before putting them on the fire, as it prevents fire damage.
Cooking on camp fire, using direct heat, gives such pleasure that evokes childhood memories about going back to the basics, so it’s always welcome. However, if you don’t want to have that joy ruined, it’s needless to say you have to carry out the planning beforehand. This means preparing the menu well ahead of time, before you set out on the camping trip.
Based on how many people you’d be cooking for, and their food preferences, measure ingredients accordingly and store them in ziplock bags neatly labelled. You can speed things up by preparing something at home then simply heat it up at the campsite.
When you want to avoid food from going bad, and save up on cooling costs, you have to rely on latest technology in the form of portable fridge freezer. Not only would it give you the peace of mind, you would also be able to have fresh food for days and even enjoy ice cream treats.
