Get the Vintage Look Wallpaper: Fresh Ways to Work It into Every Corner of Your Home

I am a huge lover of everything vintage; I’ve slowly embraced the hipster lifestyle simply because buying things I really can live without became pointless at the moment I realized that if it doesn’t have a story behind it, it’s simply not worth having. A change like this at a mature age is pretty addictive I must say. I became a lot more picky about the clothes I buy, my taste in everything is just so perfectionist now and my home kind of… well it looks different now.

When I first bought it, I had my parents help me invest in its look and design so it’s the best modern-looking apartment ever. But as hipsterism happened to me (the hipsterism in clothing style and interior design of course), I decided to renovate a little. So a lot of the pieces I used to have in my home went on my garage sale and with the money I got I bought some pretty cool vintage pieces. The only thing that was left to do was to give the apartment the last drop of coolness: decorate the walls.

A hipster like me doesn’t leave anything unattended or to the mercy of coincidences – everything must be planned perfectly and serve a goal or a purpose. In this case, my walls were bare white and some of them had some extra modern colour on them, meaning they weren’t even close to being useful to my vision. And since I don’t want to repaint (actually, I don’t have the time to), I decided to go with the vintage look wallpaper option.

Playful shapes

I wanted to avoid the white walls by all means possible. They’re boring and so not hipstery. So, my first choice was a vintage look wallpaper with a playful design: interesting shapes like old 50’s style clocks that would perfectly blend in the decor. The base should be in colour, and a fresh one: think vintage pink, that soft pastel yellow or a blue-like nuance.

Retro black and white

This one is rather tricky, because it has to fit the entire ambiance along with the furniture elements and decorations and still not overcrowd the place. That being said, go for a white base and black repetitive pattern, like funky geometrical shapes or cool flowers. Also, make sure you don’t cover all your walls with this one – these types of wallpapers serve to create a focal point in a room, not turn it into a box.

A dose of vintage spring

A white base designed with pretty flowers or playful figurines with small portions coloured in eye-catchy colours like bordeaux and yellow, grey and yellow or yellow and green combos. These would be perfect for the rooms where you have little furniture and other elements but still want to give a certain charm, like the bathroom, the kitchen or a children’s bedroom.

All in all, decorating with vintage look wallpaper is everything but easy. These are pretty specific patterns, colours and overall designs and anyone who is not familiar with them can easily make a huge decorating mistake. Meant mostly for covering a certain portion of your wall, a vintage look wallpaper can beatify your home and refresh the look of your existing interior.
