Scandinavian Design: Trend Following Doesn’t Have to Cost You a Fortune

Okay, so it’s safe to say the world has been under a spell thanks to Scandinavian culture and design trends. Unlike other trends, this one proves to be timeless, taking into account it’s been around for some time now, and the more we see and know of it, the more we like it.

Why is that so? Because apart from the fact it’s pretty to look at, it’s also good for our well-being. This certainly has to do with the basic principles of the trend itself: simplicity, elegance, brightness, comfort. The fact we get to see more of it around nowadays, from blogs, to magazines, it’s not surprising to want to implement the ideas at home which is where this trend outshines others.

Remember, this is a design trend that is the opposite of opulence, and urges for less, so a makeover shouldn’t cost you a fortune. The simple addition of an affordable, sleek, modern, minimal, and small two seater sofa could make a world of difference to your interior, without having to go on a quest for more furniture pieces to get the desired Scandinavian look.

Despite what it may seem, you have plenty of other options to consider, starting from Scandinavian design cushions, like the iconic knot. After all, the Scandinavian trend is also about playing with colours, patterns, fabrics, and comfort which is exactly what cushions can provide, as long as you don’t go overboard with the choices in terms of matching a variety of patterns, or steering away from soft neutrals. Contrasts are allowed so long as they make for a harmonious outcome!

Then again, that’s also what throws are here for, so if you don’t pile up on cushions, you can add some warmth in the form of a throw. Speaking of warmth, you can count on throw rugs too, as long as they are bright-coloured, and don’t take up too much flooring space. One of the secrets of the charms of Scandinavian homes is airiness, so as long as you make your home feel spacious, and more inviting, you’re on the right path.

A way you can make your abode appear more spacious is through brightness. Don’t despair even if you don’t have that many large enough windows – just find an interesting mirror and your job is done. Mirrors prove to be essential with their role, since when positioned strategically, they reflect the light of windows. You get bonus points with the style too!
