Supplies for Cats – Listing the Daily Essentials for Your Feline Friend

Bringing a new kitten home is super exciting. I know the feeling very well because I have recently become the owner of a cat too. Believe me, there is nothing cuter than a cuddly, playful little furball. Without a doubt, you and your new family member will become best friends for many years to come, but you should first make sure to start this relationship right. In other words, to have all the supplies for cats you will need once your new friend arrives home.

For me, this was a quite stressful process. Since I didn’t have any experience with cats before, I found myself a little nervous about whether I was choosing the right items. However, worry not – even if you do have some experience in this you can still get confused as nowadays there really is a wide selection of supplies for cats. To make it easier for you, here is a short list of some of the basic supplies you will need when your kitten arrives home.

Water and food bowls

Although water and food bowls are some of the most obvious supplies for cats, you still need to choose carefully. There are a lot of options on the market but stainless steel bowls are the best choice due to their easy maintenance and sterilization. Ceramic and glass bowls are also a good choice while the plastic options are not usually recommended because some of them may retain smell that can affect the food’s taste. The shape is also important. If your cat is rather small, make sure the bowls are shallow so that it doesn’t have any problems reaching the water and food.

Bedding

It is important to provide your cat with its own place for sleeping. A place to cuddle, feel comfortable and warm. Shopping for a bed for a cat can be a time-consuming process as there is a vast array of choices. However, whatever you choose should be warm and soft. When it comes to design – you can choose whatever you want but usually, most of the cats prefer the nest-type beds ( usually shaped like a donut). Although there is a pretty big chance your cat will sleep elsewhere in your home, including your bed, it is still a good idea to buy a bed made specifically for it.

Grooming supplies

The right grooming equipment will help you keep your furry friend looking neat and beautiful. For that purpose, you will need a metal-toothed comb, a flea comb and a bristle brush. Depending on the type of cat that you have, you will also need a wire brush, a metal-toothed comb with alternating short and long teeth and a slicker brush. De-shedders are also great tools to have as they can easily remove loose hair and make grooming a lot easier.

Toys

Playtime is a very important component of a kitten’s development. Cats are very playful creatures and investing in a few toys will help your buddy to be happier. The only thing you should be careful about is that your cat doesn’t chew some small pieces off the toy. Any toy that comes in a size smaller than a ball for ping-pong is considered dangerous.
