An Insight Into TIG Welding

People and tools have always been in an unbreakable relationship. This is so even today, in the technologically advanced world we live in. Ever since the beginnings of metal work, there has been the need for the perfect tool that could simplify the process of fusion of metals. That’s how the process of welding came about. Ancient Egyptians had their share of welding, and the earliest known welded product are Bronze Age gold boxes.

However, it wasn’t until the 1800s that this method got its breakthrough. Apart from the more than 30 welding types, out of the four basic, it was the TIG welding that had its continuous development, as soon as the short pulsed electric arc was discovered by Sir Humphry Davy.  If you’ve had your share of welding, particularly TIG, you know how difficult it can be, especially because there’s a lot of coordination needed to get the desired metal fusion outcome.

However, now that we rely on machinery, a TIG welder comes in handy. On the plus side as well, there’s a wide range of cheap Tig welders one can choose from whose ingenious upgraded design makes the welding tasks safe and easy to heat and melt different alloys and metals considering they are fan cooled and have a protective circuit to prevent overheating. Some of these machines are the combination of both TIG and MIG, and come with the additional earth cable, and welding mask, working in both gas and gasless mode – ideal for the DIY lovers.

The way the Tig welder works is through the heat it produces thanks to the arc of electricity which goes from the electrode, more specifically tungsten metal, to the metal you decide to weld. The name TIG comes from Tungsten Inert Gas, as you might guess it comes from the electrode and the inert gas that surrounds it. TIG is suitable for several metals, such as aluminium, steel, titanium, copper, and is perfect for more demanding welds, like curves. Along with taking a look at the choices of cheap Tig welders available on the market, it’s important to have certain aspects in mind prior to the purchase.

You have to decide whether to buy portable or stationary welder, taking your welding needs into account. Portable welders are more lightweight and ideal if you have power source moved around the space. If you get one of the welders that’s a combination of both TIG and MIG, you wouldn’t have to worry about the metal thickness, because TIG is suitable for thinner metals as opposed to MIG providing you faster welding of thicker material – and this way you get to choose which one to use based on the material you have to weld. The material is also connected with the type of power you require: aluminium welding on AC power, other metals on DC.
